Ex-Information Minister, Alex Akinyele, is dead

A former Minister of Information, Chief Alex Akinyele, is dead.

A statement by one of his sons, Constantine Akinfolarin Akinyele, confirmed that the Ondo chief passed away late Thursday night after a brief illness.

He served as the Minister of Information, then later became Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

And it was under his watch as NSC Chairman that Nigeria qualified for their first ever World Cup finals after drawing with the Desert Warriors of Algeria in the final qualifier for USA’94.

JUST IN: Edo APC removes Lawrence Okah as Secretary

Mr. Lawrence Okah has been removed as the State Secretary of the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was contained in a statement signed by the Assistant State Secretary, Mr. Ikuenobe Anthony.

The statement said the decision was taken after a meeting of the State Executive Committee on Tuesday where a vote of no confidence was passed on Okah.

According to him: “The State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has this morning, 12th of November, 2019, passed a vote of no confidence on the State Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Okah, in accordance with Article 17 (v) of the constitution of the party.

“The effect of this is that Mr. Lawrence Okah ceases to be the State Secretary of the party henceforth.

“An appropriate replacement will be effected in due course in accordance with Article 17 (vi) of the said constitution.”

The statement said a vote of confidence was passed on State Chairman of the party, Barr. Anselm Ojezua.

Bolivian President Evo Morales resigns amid turmoil caused by his re-election last month widely seen as fraudulent.

His action is coming not long after his army chief urged him to step down amid protests stemming from his disputed re-election last month, reports the BBC.

General Williams Kaliman told reporters on Sunday: “After analysing the conflicted domestic situation, we ask the president to resign his presidential mandate to allow for pacification and the maintaining of stability, for the good of our Bolivia.”

He added that the military had ordered “operations in the air and on land to neutralise armed groups acting outside the law”.
