25-year-old IMSU student arrested for raping 15-year-old girl in Aba

A suspected rapist identified as Chukwuebuka Johnpaul escaped lynching by an angry mob in Aba, Abia State yesterday after he was caught allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl. The 25-year-old 200 level political science student of the Imo State University, Owerri, a resident of Christ Church Road, World Bank Housing Estate, Abayi, Aba was rescued by police at about 1 pm at Alozie Street Aba. New Telegraph learnt that Johnpaul lured the victim with a job vacancy inscription advert when he wrote on a board that he needs a receptionist and placed it on the roadside in a building yet to be occupied by people.

The job vacancy advert at tracted the 15-year-old girl who just finished writing her Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and was on a job hunt to support herself and her parents. New Telegraph gathered that when the victim got to the venue, the suspect who was standing by told her that he was the boss of the organisation and told her to follow him upstairs for an interview. According to information available to New Telegraph, the victim, whose mother is a widow followed the suspect upstairs without any form of suspicion.

As gathered, as soon as the two got to one apartment upstairs, the suspect who is very huge naturally, grabbed the victim to the ground, tore her panties and raped her. It was learnt that all attempts the victim made to raise alarm to alert some boys downstairs failed as the suspect covered her mouth, picked up a plank of wood and told her that it may be last breath if she attempted shouting. After allegedly raping her, as he tried leaving the said victim raised alarm and people downstairs rounded him up as he was trying to escape the place which didn’t belong to him, but only has access to.

He was grabbed by the angry residents who beat him thorlar oughly and almost lynched him before the police from the Aba Central Police Station rescued him. New Telegraph gathered that the victim who is seriously traumatised is currently hospitalised at Police Clinic, Aba Area Command. A police source told New Telegraph that the victim has confessed to the crime while investigations are ongoing to unravel more facts about the matter. All efforts made to reach the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna proved abortive as he failed to respond to his call.
