4 arrested as robbers, police exchange gun shots in Delta

Dominic Adewole, ASABA Four persons believed to be notorious armed robbers were yesterday arrested by the police around Benjones, at the popular Hausa Market along the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Expressway at Warri in Delta State after engaging a police team in a gun duel.

 

The suspects who operated in a motorcycle suddenly alighted and one of them opened fire at the team during a stop and search routine.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in Asaba yesterday said the team strategically positioned and returned fire for fire. He said, “during the gun duel, one of the suspects, named Yusuf Ibrahim ‘m’, age 27, was shot on his left leg which brought him down and he was arrested along with the rider of the motorcycle, one Hashimu Garba ‘m’ 30 yrs of Mami Market, Effurun while the third suspect escaped.”

 

While he listed the exhibit recovered to include one cut-to-size locally made single barrel gun, three live cartridges and two expended cartridges, he said manhunt had begun for the fleeing suspect, noting that robbers now operate with motorcycles in the state.
