Abandoned projects: Ogun mobilizes contractors to sites

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has mobilised contractors handling various abandoned projects in the state, including roads, flyovers and bridges, to commence work without further delay.

The state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, disclosed this in Abeokuta during inspection of some projects abandoned by the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The projects included the asphalt laying of the Kuto flyover, Mokola bridge along Ajitadun-Adatan Road and Panseke-Adigbe Road, among others.

A statement issued by the Press Officer of the ministry, Femi Olayinka, quoted the commissioner as saying the revitalisation of the abandoned projects was in fulfilment of the governor’s social contract with the people of the state.

According to him, Akinsanya restated the commitment of the state government to the completion of all legacy projects in the state to boost socio-economic activities.

The commissioner said it was alarming that most of the abandoned projects had been awarded since 2012 and 2013.

He, however, declared that the Abiodun-led administration had released funds to expedite action in executing the numerous abandoned projects.

“Let me categorically point out that the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration has released funds to ensure speedy conclusion of all abandoned projects by the previous administration. It is alarming that most of these projects have been awarded since 2012 and 2013,” Akinsanya was quoted as saying.

In his remarks, the Project Manager, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), Engr. Sewell Zhao, noted that the release of the funds was timely.

Zhao said the development would fast track the completion of the projects, thereby relieving the stress of motorists, commuters and other road users.
