…Rangers to maintain run against Akwa United
With the second half of the season beginning this weekend, Abia Warriors will on Sunday seek for revenge when they take on brother, Enyimba, in one of the Nigeria Professional Football League MatchDay 20 scheduled for various centres across the country.
The last game between the two sides which was decided last weekend ended 3-1 in favour of champions Enyimba as they continue their upward rise in the league.
During the week, the country’s only club still playing on the continent defeated Wikki Tourists 3-0 in a rescheduled game and will be looking forward to taking that form to Umuahia.
Abia Warriors on the other hands will not want thunder to strike twice as they will be targeting a win in the game especially playing in front of their fans.
After ending their run, Kano Pillars will also be seeking revenge when they take on MFM in Kano after losing 3-1 to the Lagos team last weekend.
Despite taking the lead in the game from a howler by MFM keeper, Folarin Abayomi, who fumbled a routine grab of a corner kick; brace from substitute, Clement Ogwu and another from Adeniji Adewole, secured the historic win.
The return leg in Kano will however give the home team an opportunity to return to winning ways as they continue their push for a continental ticket.
Warri Wolves will be at home against Katsina United in the repeat of last weekend game while Sunshine Stars will be looking forward to making it a back-to-back victory against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.
It took a second half penalty for Rivers United to secure a 1-0 victory against Kwara United, as they send their former Team Coordinator, Bashir Badawiy, who is now the General Manager of the Afonja Warriors, away empty haded.
The Ilorin side will be hoping to however get the maximum points in Ilorin with Adamawa United playing host to Heartland in another match.
Meanwhile, after securing another 1-0 victory against Jigawa Golden Stars, Rangers will hope to maintain their unbeaten run as the take on Akwa United in Enugu.
The last encounter between the two ended goalless in Uyo and it will be another opportunity for the coach Salisu Yusuf led team to move away from the relegation zone.
Speaking after the win against Jigawa, the assistant coach of the Flying Antelope, Mbwas Mangut, said: “We hope to keep working on the team even with injuries to some key players, we believe we shall deliver the goods as the season continues.”
Other games scheduled for the weekend will see Plateau United hoping to return to the top of the table as they take on Dakkada FC while current leaders, Lobi Stars, will be away to Wikki Tourists as Jigawa Golden Stars play away to Nasarawa United.
