Accountant jailed 7 years for N7m fraud

An Ondo State High Court has sentenced an accountant with the State Hospital Management Board to seven years imprisonment.

The accountant, Aminu Kamilu was convicted for perpetrating fraud to the tune of N7m. Kamilu was said to have committed the crime while serving as an accountant at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government.

According to Justice William Olamide of the State High Court who gave the judgement,  all evidence by the defendant to absolve himself of culpability in the allegation did not hold water.

Justice Olamide, however, acquitted the second defendant, Azeez Musa and emphasised that Aminu single handedly committed the offence.

The Judge also directed the state government to demote other civil servants indicted in connection with the theft to their previous positions.  Justice Olamide added that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to other civil servants who might want to tamper with government money.
