Passengers besieged the train station in Kaduna as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday returned to the Abuja-Kaduna highway, abducting dozens of travellers.
The attack occurred between Akilbu and Rijana villages along the expressway
Confirming the attack, Senator Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna State senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate said the security officers refused to engage the kidnappers.
Sani also shared the picture of the train station in Kaduna besieged by travellers on his Twitter handle with the caption “Train to the rescue”.
“Travelling by road from Kaduna to Abuja has become a suicide mission.
“Some travellers have been kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja Road an hour ago. The bandits operated between Akilbu and Rijana villages unchallenged. The road is deserted,” he posted on Twitter.
Passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna highway have been targeted by gunmen recently, with several persons abducted and some killed.
Sagir Hamida, a Zamfara governorship aspirant in the 2019 election, was recently killed by gunmen along the highway.
Several other travellers were also kidnapped during the attack.
