Ajax reward Dutch-born Nigerian youngster, Gibson Yah, with maiden pro soccer contract

18-year-old Dutch-born Nigerian eligible midfielder, Gibson Yah,
will be part of Ajax senior squad this season, as he has been handed his first professional football contract following a superb performance through the youth side.

Ajax manager, Erik Ten Hag is a huge fan of Gibson Yah and has raved about the academy graduate, who has been at Ajax for over two years, to his coaching staff and friends.

Gibson Yah, son to Nigerian parents from Edo State,  is super thrilled to sign his maiden professional contract with Ajax, the most successful club in Holland, in a deal that will see him remain in the Johan Cruyff Arena till June 2022 with an option for an additional year.

The young mildfielder was heavily linked with a move away from the youth side following the 2019-20 campaign, with Hag now confirming that he chose to stay and continue his business with the first team after generating interest from a number of clubs.

Gibson Yah will not be making his debut until he fully recovers from injury to help boost the squad, and if he can shine in the club’s ongoing treble bid there is every chance his services will be retained for the long term.

Moreover, the Dutch champions were once home to some Nigerian finest ex-footballers like Nwankwo Kanu, Finidi George and Tijjani Babangida, and Gibson had vowed to continue in their footsteps if given the chance.

“I want to become a reliable player at this club. A player the trainer can count on,” Gibson Yah promised.

Yah, a former Dutch Under-17 star, is eligible to play for Nigeria, since he is yet to make an appearance for both nations at the competitive level but this could be a thing of the past if he is able to impress at Ajax.
