The founder-president of AMVEK Foundation, a humanitarian, non-governmental organisation, Mrs. Anyanwu Vera Blessing, has said that giving back to a society that raised her and giving the children a better opportunity in life is her passion. Mrs. Anyanwu who spoke when she had a breakfast outreach with some children in Ajegunle, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, said: “I grew up in Ajegunle lived in one room apartment, I knew that life then was very difficult, also I knew how difficult it was growing up as a child. So each time I reflect, I had that feeling that there are so many children in the same Ajegunle that are going through what I went through, that is why I always come to Ajegunle to do my outreach Programmes.”
So, as early as 7.30am, AMVEK Foundation moved into the area with an agenda to feed 220 Children, each with an egg, loaf of bread, Sachets of Milo and Milk for their breakfast outreach programme at Ibitoye Community. According to her, she decided on a breakfast, “Because this is the best time to catch them and we have come to realize that most children don’t eat in the morning before going to school.
“And when you don’t take breakfast in the morning there is no way the child will assimilate very well in the school. So giving them breakfast, it is also to teach the parents that there is a need for every child to eat in the morning. The children should not take pap in the morning before going to school, because it makes them fall asleep in the class.” On why she targeted the children, “I am a care Child specialist, I came to educate the children on early childhood education.
