Akpeyi plays down rivalry with Khune

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has described South Africa international goalkeeper Khune Itumeleng, as a legend. Akpeyi and Khune remained two of the best goalkeepers in the South African Premier Soccer League and they are both on the book of Kaizer Chiefs. Akpeyi arrived at Kaizer Chiefs from Chippa United as a replacement for Khune who sustained long term injury at the time. However the Nigerian international has kept his place in the side, with the South African legend now relegated to the bench as number two since his recovery. Despite displacing Khune, Akpeyi insisted that he has utmost respect for him and also described him as a true legend. ”He is a true legend @IIKHUNE_32_16 no wonder he’s a hero.I have so much respect for him even more,” he wrote on his social media handle. Akpeyi was in goal on Wednesday for Chiefs in a league restart against Bidvest Wits and the match ended in a 1 – 1 draw. The former Warri Wolves man has now made 20 appearances for Chiefs this season.
