APC crisis: Uzodimma, PGF DG call on leaders to intervene

The Director General of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Governors’ Forum, Dr. Salihu Lukman and the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, yesterday asked leaders of the party to gather to resolve the problems of the party.
While Lukman said it would take party chieftains not driven by 2023 ambitions to resolve the leadership crisis in the party, Uzodimma said that the Constitution of the party was enough to resolve the impasse.
The APC, has since Tuesday been enmeshed in a leadership crisis as two factions of the National Working Committee(NWC) are laying claims to the position of Acting National Chairman.
The former National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was on Tuesday relieved of his position through the Appeal Court upholding his suspension.
Lukman said those laying claims to Acting National Chairman of APC were doing so for their principals.
According to him, the National Executive Committee should be held to resolve all the crises in the party.
In doing so, he called on leaders like President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Chief Tony Momoh and some others to come together and save the party from ambitious party chieftains.
He said: “This is why all leaders who believe they are not infected by the “old ambition-Virus 2023” should step forward to support President Buhari and protect any further distraction and potential damage to his legacy.
“To such an extent, one would expect that Asiwaju Tinubu being the Chief Physician of “old ambition-Virus 2023”, as well as being that old politically strong ally of President Buhari, whose partnership assisted in producing the APC and ensuring the defeat of PDP in 2015, he will be in the forefront in activating the moral authority of the combined leadership of President Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu to resolve the current APC crisis.
The combined moral authority of President Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu should have involuntarily moderated the conduct of other leaders of the party especially members of the NWC.”
Uzodinma advised the party to rely in its Constitution to solve the present leadership tussle.
Uzodinma gave the advice yesterday at the National Secretariat of APC in Abuja after the inauguration of the Edo State APC governorship primary committee.
According to him, this would not be the first time the party would be in crisis but had always come out stronger.
Uzodinma said: “The purpose of disagreement is to agree. As we trying to disagree in our great party, we disagreeing to agree. It therefore goes to show that the party is growing from strength to strength.
“All the internal disagreements, the party Constitution is fashioned in a manner that it has provided for ways and means of resolving these disagreements.
