Arsonists set Agbarho Palace ablaze

The Palace of the Osuvie of Agbarho kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have been set ablaze by an unknown persons. Though the report of the incident was sketchy, it was learnt that parts of the palace was set ablaze.

 

According to sources, “the palace main hall, a guest house, a staff quarter that houses NYSC Corp members and the window of the traditional ruler’s apartment were among areas allegedly burnt.

 

“There were also attempts to set a car of the Osuvie ablaze as petrol fumes were perceived in parts of the palace.” Speaking to newsmen, the palace guard, Mr. Friday Sabulefe, revealed that the arsonists, numbering three, broke into the palace, held him down and issued threats to him at gun point.

Commenting on the incident, President-General, Agbarho – Urhobo Improvement Union, Chief Monday Igho-Odiphiri, said, “it was the handwork of those intending to sabotage the progress of the kingdom.

“The incident is a calculated attempt to embarrass the people of the kingdom. I received a distress call at about 3am that the palace was being consumed by fire.

“I immediately mobilised security men to the palace whose efforts helped to put out the fire. When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident said, “The police had commenced investigation into the matter.”
