Artistes perform better in right business environment – Chippy Toye

Budding serial entrepreneur, Okedara Ibitoye Ezekiel, recently stated that artistes signed under record labels need finances and the right environment to perform better.

The Chippy Record boss said this while pointing out what he would like to change about the Nigerian music industry.

“I’d love to change people’s thinking about the music business. It helps the artistes grow better if the financial resource is available. Good artistes would always perform better if they found themselves in the right business environment.”

Speaking of how dynamic the music industry has become, Chippy Toye singled out social media for its far-reaching influence in the marketing of digital music and other mind-blowing developments in music globally.

“We all live on the Internet now, and without communication, especially on social media, there is hardly anything that can be done. Just imagine that we wake up tomorrow and there is no social media, it’d affect almost all the business part of me, and slow down a lot of creative processes.”

He also declared that the founding his record label in 2019 is the most important decision he has taken so far as a businessman.

“The most important decision I have taken in my life so far is creating my record label and signing Dagizah as my artiste,” he affirmed.

Okedara, who is popularly called Chippy Toye, further avowed that the most memorable moment of his life so far is “the day I had my first son.”

He made this disclosure while speaking about his love life in passing.

“My love life is not too good because the only woman I was thinking to marry was tricked and she lost it but now, I have my own son with another lady now and I am okay with that,” he said.

Chippy Toye also declared his admiration for some showbiz figures whom he considered his mentors. Among his favourite showbiz players, he spotlighted Abu Abel, whom he considered his “backbone and mentor,” and Bankuli who according to him, “is like a father to me.” Bankuli, he avowed, “always guides me through the musical path and has been helpful to me and my label.”
