Banditry: Reps ask Air Force to clear bandits, terrorists with air surveillance

The House of Representatives yesterday urged the Chief of Air Staff in collaboration with the Chief of Army Staff to provide aerial surveillance and support to flush out bandits’ hideouts and camps.

 

It also urged the Department of State Services and Directorate of Military Intelligence to gather intelligence information on the influx, camping and operations of bandits within Wase Federal Constituency and adjoining towns, and share same with  other sister security agencies.

 

T his followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase.

 

In passing the bill, the lower chamber urged the Chief of Army Staff to establish military presence/ bases in Pinau, Bangalala, Yuli, and Zurak, (all in Wase, Plateau State);Kukawa (in Kanam LGA, Plateau State); and Lau and Karim Lamido LGAs (in Taraba State).

 

It also urged the Inspector- General of Police to immediately deploy Mopol Squadrons to utilise the Kadarko Police Barracks in Wase already constructed since the Obasanjo administration, but yet to be utilised.

 

It equally urged the Inspector- General of Police to provide Mopol Squadron formations/bases in Pinau, Bangalala,Yuli, and Zurak, (all in Wase Federal Constituency); Kukawa (in Kanam LGA, Plateau State), and Lau and Karim Lamido LGAs (in Taraba State). Presenting the motion, the deputy speaker regretted the spate of banditry ravaging several states in the northern part of Nigeria.

 

He noted that as a result of the intense military campaign against these bandits in states like Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto, a lot of them are escaping and relocating to other parts of the north.

 

Wase further informed that several escaping bandits have gradually relocated and infiltrated the forests around Wase Federal Constituency and environs through Bauchi and Taraba state
