Belgian coach front runner for Super Eagles job

A Belgian coach is now the front runner to replace Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles coach just as top officials have ruled out a Nigerian coach like Emmanuel Amuneke taking over the national team. NFF officials led by president Amaju Pinnick met Thursday in Abuja with sports minister Sunday Dare to discuss issues concerning the Eagles leading up to next month’s AFCON in Cameroon. Arising from this meeting, officials said it is clear that Rohr will not be the man to lead Nigeria to the AFCON. This update comes with information that a top Belgian coach is now in pole position for the Eagles’ top job. Officials met with early favourite and the Serbian Mladen Krstajic in London. But he does not speak even passable English amid growing doubts about his pedigree. The NFF has also made it clear that a local man will not be in charge of the team. Amuneke has widely been linked to the position after his stints in Sudan, Tanzania and Egypt with Rohr’s No 1 assistant, Salisu Yusuf also being mentioned as an option even on a temporary basis.
