CCC Worldwide celebrates late Pastor Owodunni

Members of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide will gather on Saturday, November 27 for a memorial service (Amissa) to mark the one-year anniversary of the passing of the late leader of the Church, Pastor Josiah Kayode Joseph Owodunni.

According to a release signed by the church secretary, Hon. Senior Evangelist Toyon Akapo, the memorial service will kick off by 10:00 a.m. at the auditorium of the CCC, Oluwaseyi International Headquarters, Ijeshatedo, Lagos with choristers from different cathedrals and parishes entertaining guests and members to songs specially practiced and prepared for the remembrance service.

A Memorial Lecture will also be held at the same venue by 3:00 p.m. to round up the celebration.

The release described the late Pastor as a pillar of strength who stood behind his beliefs no matter the opposition.

“Pastor Owodunni was especially uncompromising when it came to spiritual matters regarding the CCC. For over three decades, the Pastor dedicated his spiritual, intellectual, financial and legal resources towards defending the CCC constitution. He fought undeterred all the way to the Supreme Court which ultimately held that the unconstitutional appointment of a Pastor in contravention of the CCC constitution was null and void. Consequently, his legacy as God’s general and advocate within the CCC is forever cast in stone”, the release added.

His last visit to CCC Oluwaseyi, International Headquarters was said to have been at last year’s adult harvest where he unusually requested the entire congregation to chant seven times seven (49) Halleluyahs. “We did not know it was his farewell and that it would be his final grace and blessing over all of his spiritual children before his return to the Almighty.”

The church, however, thanked God for the life and legacies of the late Pastor and prayed that God will send to the church “His Comforter to lift our spirits and share God’s love just as Pastor Owodunni did during his lifetime.”

The late Pastor Josiah Owodunni was born in Ijebu Odogbolu on October 10, 1934 to Mr. Adegoke Owodunni, an Anglican goldsmith, and Alhaja Jemilat, a Moslem fish merchant from the prominent Alowosile family. He was raised with an appreciation for both faiths and his Moslem name was Abdul Karim, meaning “servant of the most generous”.

Pastor Owodunni was married to his late wife, Mabel Olufunke Owodunni (nee Ogunnaike) on March 31, 1962 and he enjoyed 45 blissful years of marriage until she preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by children and grandchildren.
