Wife of the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Eunice Ortom at the weekend celebrated with over 5, 000 women across the state where she distributed trucks loads of wrappers and bags of rice respectively to enable them celebrate the Yuletide season.
The beneficiaries cut across different ethnic divides residents in the state with majority been members of the Benue Women In Prayer, (BEWIP) a prayer group formed by Mrs. Ortom basically for women to sustain prayers for peace in the state and for the continued support given to the present administration.
Speaking at the event which took place at the Chapel of Grace church at the government house which also marked the third year anniversary of BEWIP, Mrs. Ortom lauded the team for sustaining the vision she formed over three years ago. “If you are a prayerful woman, you will appreciate God for what He has done to your life by coming to cry to Him and sing for His goodness in the last over three years of this administration”.
Mrs. Ortom also thanked God for the return of relative peace in the state after months of sustained attacks by suspected herdsmen militia, and further prayed for an end to the carnage to enable Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return to their ancestral homes. Mrs. Ortom expressed optimism that with the support of God, the attacks would be subdued and the devil put to shame.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor’s wife, Mr. Shima Aondoakaa said the donation was an indication of appreciation to the women for standing by Governor Ortom despite the challenges confronting the state.
“It is like giving back to the women what they have been doing to her. They voted for her husband to be Governor of Benue State in 2015 and they have never relented their support as the 2019 general elections are fast approaching, so she (Mrs. Ortom) considers it is an opportunity for her give back to them what she has to enable them celebrate the Christmas”.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to New Telegraph, including Mrs. Susan Terfa, commended Mrs. Ortom for the gesture which she said would enable most women to enjoy both Christmas and the New Year.
“We the women in Benue State are proud of what the Governor’s wife has done to the women. She has put smiles on our faces. We are happy, the widows are also happy for her today. We will continue to support the governor so that he wins the 2019 governorship election to continue to protect us against armed Fulani mercenaries.”
Another beneficiary who simply identified herself as Mrs. Mbawuhen, a widow, thanked Mrs. Ortom for her care for the less privileged in the state, saying the gesture will ring bells of the good works she is doing through her pet project, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) across the state and further garner more support for her husband’s reelection in 2019.
