Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited has strongly denied reports currently circulating on social media that the Italian national that has tested positive to the coronavirus had visited the company, consequently prompting the company to be locked down by health authorities.
In a strongly worded statement, signed by the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Walter Peviani, the firm insisted that at no time had the Italian visited their offices in Banana Island, Lagos.
“With reference to the news circulated by some social media in Lagos regarding an Italian citizen confirmed positive to n-COVID19 (Coronavirus) we have come to the knowledge of allegations suggesting that this Italian citizen has visited Saipem offices in Banana Island Lagos and now subject to lockdown.
“I wish to confirm that this person has never been in Saipem offices and that Saipem is continuing its own operations normally. As confirmed by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Obafemi Hamzat on national television, this person visited Ewekoro in Ogun State before he fell ill and brought to Lagos where he was diagnosed with the n-COVID19.
“In addition other press briefings and statement by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire have confirmed the itinerary of the patient,” the statement said.
