Emmanuel Onani, Abuja

A group operating under the aegis of North East Women for Peace, has applauded the sustained onslaught on terrorist elements in the region by troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).

Recall that the Director,Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Benard Onyeuko had disclosed during an interview on Channels Television, that at least 104 ISWAP fighters and their family members, surrendered to the state last Saturday.

According to the peace group, the development was indicative of the unceasing pressure on the enemies of state by fighting forces, who have continued to deny insurgents freedom of action in the North East general area.

In a statement by their Leader, Fatima Bindir, the women lauded the renewed collaboration among the Services, insisting that same had bolstered ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency war.

“The surrender of the terrorists and their families show that they are under intense attack by troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“We commend the Defence Headquarters for the coordination which continues to yield results in the war against insurgency.

“We urge our people, especially our women to support and cooperate with the Armed Forces to restore peace in our region. Without peace, there will be no development,” the group said.
