COVID-19: Shell donates medical equipment to Delta

Efforts by Delta State Government to increase testing for COVID-19 cases yesterday received a boost with a machine donated by Shell Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), which is capable of conducting 1,000 tests daily.

Other facilities and equipment donated to the state by the company include an ambulance, suction machine and other critical items needed to make an isolation centre functional.

Managing Director of SPDC and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okumbor, presented the items to the state government yesterday in Asaba, the state capital.

He stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration had shown great commitment in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.

Okumbor, who was represented by Stakeholders Manager of the company, Mr. Evans Krukrubo, said that the state government deserved support from SPDC, even as he acknowledged that the company had also received a lot of support from the government and people of the state.

He, however, stated that the government had showcased this because if someone wants to know what ease of doing business is all about, let him come to Delta State.”

Okumbor said: “The governor’s leadership and state response to the spread of COVID-19 enable us to keep hope alive that we shall tame and overcome this challenge. The SPDC, in conjunction with our joint venture partners – NNPC, TEPN and NAOC – remain committed to supporting the state government’s efforts at managing the pandemic and recognise as a key gap, the absence of adequate testing capability globally and in Nigeria.
