CSR: BATNF wins New Telegraph’s award

Following its enormous contribution to the development of Nigeria’s agric sector, the British American Tobacco Nigerian Foundation (BATNF) has been adjudged as Nigeria’s Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Agric Company Of The Year 2021 by the Board and Management of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company, publishers of New Telegraph titles.

At a well packaged ceremony in Lagos, BATN Foundation was handed over the award plague for Nigeria’s Best CSR Agric Company-Of- The-Year. Speaking at the award ceremony when handing over the award to the Technical Committee Member, BATN, Fatai Afolabi, who received the plague on behalf of the com-pany, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, New Telegraph Newspaper, Mr. Olakunle Gidado, stated that British American Tobacco Nigerian Foundation came top after keenly contested competition with other reputable organisations for the CSR Agric Company-Of-The-Year category with New Telegraph’s Panels of Judges and Editors (PJE) selecting them as the winner in the agricultural sector category.

Gidado commended the management of British American Tobacco Nigerian Foundation for its unflinching support of the socio-economic development of Nigeria, especially agriculture, with its immensely impacts on lives of Nigerian farmers and the environment towards increasing food sufficiency in Nigeria. He charged British American Tobacco Nigerian Foundation not to relent in its bid to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s agric sector.

In his acceptance speech, Afolabi said BATNF was established as an independent charity in November 2002 to support the socio-economic development of Nigeria, adding that it had been 19 years of impacting and enriching lives. According to him, to date, the Foundation has implemented about 250 projects across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, reached 1.2 million beneficiaries and made total investment of about N2 billion in sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria. Afolabi disclosed that the award bestowed on the organisation was a testimony that will spur the company to do more for Nigeria’s agric sector development in the future, in line with its core mandate to support sustainable agriculture development and smallholder farmers in Nigeria. He noted that the Foundation would ensure no one is left behind in most vulnerable communities in Nigeria in terms of agriculture impacts on their lives.
