Customs lose N11bn revenue in 3 months

Revenue collected by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has dropped by N11.1 billion in the first quarter of the year. The service collected the sum of N77.4 billion as revenue at the Lagos Port Complex as against the N88.5 billion generated in the same period of 2016.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nkiruka Nwala, however, said that the command was unable to meet its target due to general economic downturn, which has stifled importation. A breakdown of the revenue generated by the command within the first quarter of 2017 showed that last January, N25.9billion was collected; February, N24.7billion and March N26.7billion.
