Saturday, December 4, will remain a memorable day for the spokesperson for the Department of State Services (DSS), Dr. Peter Afunanya, as the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) considered him worthy for the award of Fellow Security Institute (fsi).

Afunanya was among 66 participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 14), who graduated last Saturday, after spending 10 months in the institute established to provide senior level security and law enforcement personnel with skills and capacity for strategic management.

At the well-attended ceremony held at the institute in Bwari, Afunanya won an award for making a landmark donation to the institute, which is at par with National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), as well as the National Defence College (NDC).

The security institute, which has a subsisting relationship with the University of Florida (UNILORIN), also awards degrees and postgraduate diplomas in intelligence and security management fields.

There are indications that the specialised school also has the mandate to elevate deserving Ph.D. holders to professorial rank in their fields of specialisation.

In a brief interview with New Telegraph, Afunanya thanked the Director General of the State Services (DG SS), Mr. Yusuf Magaji, for nominating him for the course.

“As you now know, I was among the 66 participants of the EIMC 14, who have just been considered worthy in character and learning, for the prestigious award of fellow of the security institute (fsi).

“May I use this opportunity to thank my dynamic and innovative DG SS, Alhaji YM Bichi, for considering me worthy for the course.

“I also want to thank my beautiful wife, lovely children, colleagues, and friends for their support throughout the 10-month period of the course,” the DSS’ image-maker said.

Among dignitaries that attended the closing ceremony were the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), First Lady, Hajiyya Aisha Buhari, wives of governors, the DGSS, ministers, as well as captains of industries.
