Edo 2020: Group kicks against APC’s adoption of Direct Primaries

Members of the All Progressives Congress under the umbrella of Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF) Friday kicked against the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to adopt direct primaries to elect candidate for the September 19 governrorship election in the state.
They also urged other political parties to reject the process due to its possible escalation of the spread of Covid-19.
The group, also commended President Muhammadu Buhari proactive measures taken in combating the spread of the killer virus.
According to a statement signed by Convener and Secretary of the body, Comrade Roy Oribhabor and Barr. Osamwonyi Ibude, they advised Edo people and party members to maintain peace and abide by government guidelines towards stemming the spread of the coronavirus.
They said: “As concerned citizens, we are seriously worried about the political activities in Edo State because of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s on record that this deadly virus has no respect for status and positions hence our worries.
“We hereby call on all political parties in Nigeria contesting for gubernatorial election in Edo State to consider mode of primaries that will help reduce the spread of corona virus and also reduce the potency accordingly.”
