EFCC: We’ve no comment on purported memo for Magu’s removal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Friday, refused to comment on a memo purportedly from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF) recommending the removal of its Acting Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, from office.

The Senate, which is constitutionally empowered to screen and confirm executive appointments, had twice, rejected Magu’s nomination for appointment as substantive chairman of the EFCC.

Magu was appointed sometime in 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari, who had anchored his campaign on a three-point agenda, one of which was the fight against corruption.

A national daily had claimed that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), in a memo to President Muhammadu Buhari, allegedly recommended the sack of Magu, over allegations bordering management of recovered assets and funds.

When asked to respond to the report, Acting Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, simply said: “I have no comment,” and ended the call.
