Ahead of the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, an aspirant, Mr. Yinka Akerele, yesterday advised members and leaders of the opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to close ranks and ensure the party’s victory at the poll.
According to him, the mission of taking over power from those he described as usurpers must dwarf other tendencies among the party members. He added that they needed to remain united until APC records success democratically.
He spoke when he visited the party’s secretariat where he officially notified the leaders of his intention to bid for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2018 gubernatorial election.
He was received at the secretariat by the party’s Deputy Chairman, Mr. Bisi Olaleye. Akerele said: “I appeal to my co-aspirants to let us do everything humanly possible to avoid scenes of division preparatory to the primary.
Our tie to the party’s goal should remain sacrosanct; the mission of winning at the poll must dwarf other negative tendencies, as we must work in unison and remain united until we record success democratically.”
The governorship aspirant added that political office holders and the privileged few in the society should take matters concerning youth unemployment as a major issue that needs to be addressed. This he said had become important if the turnout of unemployed graduates, artisans and skilled workers in the state were to be considered.
“One major area the youth also needed to be more actively involved and engaged is in the area of leadership.
There is the need for more young people to be represented in decision- making processes. We should also mobilise them for lofty courses and get them meaningfully and gainfully engaged,” he added.
