Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, yesterday commissioned the 1000 household milk farm project, in Damau, Kubau local government area of the state. The project is a joint venture between the Kaduna State Government (KDSG), Danish dairy giant, Arla and the Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. The venture, the governor said, would assist in expanding the national capacity to produce high quality milk and reduce over reliance on import. Speaking at the commissioning, El-Rufai said the project is also a pragmatic and sustainable solution to the security challenges that now accompanied the nomadic livestock production.
According to him, the reserve when fully built will have 1,000 dairy farmers to secure better livelihood in the five districts with 200 household per district. The governor said there will be 2,800 cows per district making it 14,000 across the five district while each livestock farmer will have 5 hectare of land complete with a farm house, cattle shade and irrigated land .
