Farmers owing N2b unpaid loans –Ondo govt

Ondo State government has declared that it would not approve any loan for any farmer in the state as over N2b loans accessed by farmers have not been redeemed. The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Aribo Olayato, disclosed this while on inspection tour of Mitelo Integrated Farms, Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of the state. Olayato disclosed that a large number of farmers who accessed the loans were yet to defray the loans. According to him, some civil servants who stood surety for the farmers while accessing the loans were already in trouble as the state government was working on how to begin the deduction of the loans from their salaries. He, however, disclosed that the state government has another programme to support farmers including large scale farmers like Mitelo Farms.
