FG assures Nigerians of safety of 5G network

The Federal Government on Monday in Abuja, reassured Nigerians of the safety of the 5G network, which has become a subject of controversy in the country for quite some time now.
The Executive Vice-Chairman of the National Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta gave the assurance during the defence of the Commission’s 2022 budget estimates.
Danbatta, in company with the management team of the establishment, appeared before the National Assembly joint Committee on Communications, to defend the fiscal projections of the  Commission for the coming year.
He gave the assurance while responding to the fears expressed by some members of the joint Committee about reports that the 5G network would leave injurious consequences on humanity.
“Concerning fears about the 5G spectrum, we share the same concern because it is justified and we have been sensitizing Nigerians about the safety of the new technology. The 5G network we are going to launch is harmful.
“Up till date, there is no credible evidence about the health hazard of the 5G technology. Therefore it is safe. There is no medical evidence from the World Health Organisation indicating any harmful effect of the spectrum on the health of the end users.
“NCC has enjoined Nigerians at the national level to disabuse their minds on the purported harmful effect of the spectrum and we will continue to sensitize them on spectrum until everybody embraces the use of the G5 network,” he explained.
The Executive Vice-Chairman also disclosed that with the launch of Computer Incidence Response Team, telecommunications network across the country was secured against any form of cyber attacks.
