FG declares Monday 27, Tuesday 28 Dec, Jan 3 public holidays

The Federal Government, yesterday, declared December 27, 28 as well as January 3, 2022 as public holidays, in celebration of Christmas, Boxing and New Year Days. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore. While felicitating with Christians and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora over the celebration, the former Osun State governor tasked the faithful on the need to practice the doctrines of Jesus Christ which, he noted, include, but not limited to faith, hope and love.

“We must emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on Humility, Service, Compassion, Patience, Peace and Righteousness, that His birth signifies. This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth,” the Minister was quoted as saying. He emphasised that peace and security remained two critical conditions for economic development and prosperity, even as he urged Christians and the citizenry at large to make the best use of this festive period, by praying for the eradication of the security challenges bedevilling the nation.

This was as he challenged the citizens not to be lured into a false sense of security on COVID-19 pandemic, but to note that it is increasingly assuming a very dangerous and harmful dimension with the emergence of a virulent variant, Omicron.
