FG decries denigration of Nigeria’s military by foreign media

The Federal Government has expressed concern over the denigration of the Nigeria military by the foreign media and apparent amplification of same by the local media. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said The Economist magazine, a member of The Economist Group goofed about the security situation in Nigeria when it recently published a report that the Jihadist threat in the North-east had ‘metastasized’, meaning it had spread like a cancer to other parts of the country.

Mohammed, at a news conference in Abuja, described the story published by The Economist as in accurate, patentlywrong and badly-researched, lamented that the story was immediately amplified by the local media, without even interrogating its content. He admitted that prior to the inception of the present government, the Boko Haram terrorists operating in the North East region of Nigeria had established its so called Caliphate in Borno State.
