FG seeks more foreign support to tackle illegal migration

The Federal Government has sought more support from Germany to tackle irregular labour migration of Nigerians to the European country. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, madethisappealwhile inaugurating the Nigerian- German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (NGC), the newly upgraded National Electronic Labour Exchange (NELEX) Centre andOfficesof theZonalDirector and State Labour Controller in Lagos State.

While noting that more Migrant Resource Centres are needed in the six geo-political zones, in addition to the three existing ones in Lagos, Benin and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, he acknowledgedthecontinuous support of the German GovernmenttoNigeria, thanking especially the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) for establishing the NGC in collaboration with the ministry.

Ngige said the partnership was in recognition of the needtopromoteemployment, enhancethepotentialof international labour migration and strengthen the institutional capacity of his ministry to effectively manage organised labour migration in development- oriented ways.
