Foundation offers N29.9m scholarship to indigent students

Anon-governmental organisation, the Yomi Otubela Foundation, instituted to provide educational support through provision of a wide range scholarship programmes in conjunction with the office of Ooni of Ife, has offered scholarship valued at N29,817,500 to six indigent students in South West part of the country.

The founder of the foundation, Otunba Yomi Otubela, while explaining the essence of the programme at the Palace of the Ooni in Ile-Ife, Osun State, said the scholarship scheme was being supported by LAGOOZ School, a private school in Lagos, as a non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit organization.

According to him, the foundation was established out of the altruism to design and drive humanitarian programmes that propagates and sustains the advancement of the Nigeria’s child moral and socio-economic status through diverse scholarships from primary school level to university education in the country.

He said: “The mission and vision is to see Nigerian children acquire qualitative education, create future leaders with clear vision for transformational change and to promote the status of vulnerable and disadvantaged youth, men and women.”

Otubela further pointed out that the 2017 edition of YOF mathematics scholarship examination, which took place at various centres across South West geo-political zone of the federation comprising of Lagos, Osun (Ife) and Ondo States had over 200 participants across the three states.

The six students who emerged the overall best in the scholarship examination are Lawrence Isreal, Oladele Love, Umar Quasim, Farada Lawal, Olawunmi Precious and Mary Adekunle.

He, however, praised the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for his support for the foundation.

While responding, the monarch lauded Otunba Otubela and LAGOOZ School for the scholarship programme, saying: “I thank God and Yomi Otubela Foundation for the brave steps they took towards educating indigent students. I hereby plead with all parents to allow their kids to be well educated.”

The parents and guardians of the benefiting students expressed satisfaction over the scholarship initiative, stressing that it would go a long way in ameliorating the plight of some indigent students in the geo-political zone.
