Greater Lagos Fiesta: Only vaccinated guests‘ll be allowed in –Commissioner

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf has said that only guests who have taken the COVID-19 Vaccine will be allowed to attend the biggest entertainment show which is used to usher in the New Year.

Akinbile – Yusuf made this known at the unveiling of the 2021 Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was held at Eko Hotel and suits. She said that COVID-19 was one of the reasons the Fiesta did not hold last year 2020.

Now that Lagos State is gradually relaxing strict measures against social gathering, the decision for only vaccinated guests to attend was taken to help prevent further spread of the deadly disease that is ravaging the world.

The commissioner also stated that the event will take place at several locations on the mainland and Lagos Island, kicking off with the opening ceremony at Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan on December 1.

To shed more light on the event, the Lagos State Deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat who represented the governor at the event, explained that measures are being put in place to ensure the success of the event. He also noted that the event involves a fashion fair, festivals, concerts, music and games.

Addressing some of the concerns raised by journalists regarding traffic congestion, the deputy governor said road expansions are in progress and the operations will be put on hold until after the event to reduce traffic congestion.

“You know that Lagos is doing the first batch of the 62kilomtere road from Orile all the way to Okokomaiko. So you know that from Okokomaiko to Agbara that is the one that FERMA has done.

“The Fiesta doesn’t really change the dynamics of traffic since some take place in Badgry some take place in Ikorodu, others will take place on water and so on and so forth and like they said it has been done before so usually what we do is increase the number of management and around that time we reduce majority of the road construction that is going on so we can give people relieve,” he said.
