ACentre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) yesterday commended the Federal Government for its proactive action towards curbing the spread of COVID-19 by shutting down the nation’s airports to international flights.
The National Coordinator of the group, Sheriff Mulade, in a statement made available to journalists, also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for other proactive steps taken by reducing petroleum pump price through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in order to ensure that the fight against COVID-19 is adequately sustained.
He stated that the Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies had been doing a good job in the control and treatment of coronavirus, and especially in the area of sensitising the public and giving out adequate warnings and instructions.
While commending the media and the Ministry of Information for adequate dissemination of information, Mulade noted that Nigerians should continue to seek for information through the government and other relevant bodies, saying information was key and a veritable tool in the fight against coronavirus.
“So far, the President Buhari has proven to be very concerned and this can be seen from the actions and steps taken by the Federal Government to prevent further spread of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) by shutting down international flights and restricting others from coming into the country through the land border as a major step to contain the spread.
He advised that the land borders should also be closed and adequately policed to prevent the influx of people who had been infected by the virus from other neighbouring countries into the country.
On the group’s adherence to the Federal Government and Ministry of Health directives on containing the spread of the virus, he noted: “CEPEJ is strictly complying by shutting down all its offices in Delta, Lagos, Kano and Niger States, and FCT, Abuja.
Mulade, who urged all well-meaning Nigerians to join in the task of warding off the dreaded coronavirus that has the capacity to wipe the entire human race if not well tackled, regretted the threat of the pandemic to the economic stability of nations across the world.
