Six persons lost their lives while scores of others were injured yesterday when gunmen attacked the convoy of the Emir of Potiskum in Yobe State, Umaru Bubaram.
At least four of the Emir’s aides and two commuters were said to have died of gunshot wounds.
Other night travellers were also said to have been affected by the incident.
Source said several people might have been abducted by the attackers as empty vehicles were left at the scene when government officials visited yesterday.
The incident occurred near Fandatio village, close to Maraban Jos on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.
The attack was said to have occurred about 3a.m.
The emir was on his way to Zaria when the gunmen blocked the highway and opened fire on sighting his convoy.
It was learnt that the first class traditional ruler was on a tour of some traditional institutions in the North as part of preparations for the official inauguration of the Potiskum Central Mosque, Yobe State, which is slated for January 18, 2020.
But the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yakubu Sabo, said the attack occurred about 11p.m., on Tuesday.
It’s not clear the degree of injury sustained by the Emir, but Sabo said the monarch was at the Barau Dikko Hospital in Kaduna and was “doing very well”.
The PPRO said four of those killed were aides of the emir, while two were commuters.
Sabo said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri, had visited the emir at the hospital.
The police spokesman added that investigation into the attack had commenced.
