Gunmen kill Bauchi lawmaker, abduct wives, one-year-old daughter

Gunmen have killed a member of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Musa Mante Baraza, at his residence in Dass Local Government Area of the state and also abducted his two wives and a one-yearold daughter. The killing was confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command, which said Baraza was a member representing Dass constituency.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmed Wakili, who confirmed the killing in a telephone interview yesterday, said the lawmaker was attacked and killed by yet-tobe identified suspected gunmen late Thursday night, at his residence in Dass. Though the aim of the attack was yet to be ascertained, the gunmen were suspected to be armed robbers, who invaded his house on Thursday night. Wakili said the late Baraza’s two wives and one-yearold daughter were reportedly abducted by the gunmen with no trace of them established as of the time of this report.

The PPRO, however, said a crack team of Police personnel led by the Dass Divisional Police Officer (DPO) have mobilised to the area to commence immediate investigation to be able to track down the gunmen. Meanwhile, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State recieved with shock, the killing of the member representing Dass Constituency at the State House of Assembly Honor-able Baraza by an unknown gunmen.

The governor, who led top government officials on a condolence visit to the palace of Emir of Dass and the residence of the deceased, sympathized with the immediate family of the lawmaker, Dass Emirate council , his colleagues in the State House of Assembly over the loss. He said: “Innalillahi Wainna Ilaihi Raji’un, I recieved the killing of our lawmaker by unknown gunmen with great shock and that has shown that we need to put extra efforts in collaboration with the security agencies to ensure the safety of our people.”
