Gunmen kill veteran journalist in Nasarawa

Unidentified gunmen killed a former Secretary of the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benjuamin Ekom at his residence in Washo, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government of the state, Monday night.
Ekom was also a one time Secretary-General, Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA in the state.
Alhaji Usman Galadima-Umbugadu, the Aren Akun, who confirmed the incident, described the act as unfortunate and barbaric.
The traditional ruler described Ekom as a committed subject whose contributions would be missed by the chiefdom.
“Yes, it is true that my subject, who served as the ECDA secretary was attacked and killed in his house in Washo community by unknown gunmen.
“This is unfortunate, barbaric and uncalled for,” he said.
The second class traditional ruler said that Ekom contributed a lot to the development of the chiefdom and the state at large while alive.
He urged the family and the community to take solace in God
Also speaking, the District Head of Wakama, Nasarawa State described his death as not only a great loss to the family but to the entire Akun chiefdom considering his contributions while alive.
