I am happy Okoye joins Watford – Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his happiness on the signing of national team mate, Maduka Okoye, by his English Premier League club, Watford. Watford signed Okoye from Dutch outfit, Sparta Rotterdam, with the deal taking off from January 2022, although the goalkeeper would be staying back at his current club till the end of the season while joining up with Watford ahead of the 2022/23 league season. Speaking during a programme, On the Pitch, the Super Eagles assistant captain said he was at a time talking with the goalkeeper as he has several options to choose from.

“I’m delighted to see Maduka sign for Watford,” he said. “I’ve been speaking to him for a while about the different options he’s had and I knew the club were speaking to him, so it’s great that it’s over the line. “He’s a very reliable goalkeeper with a huge will to learn, and I think he will add a lot of strengths to the squad, when he links up with us next year.” Apart from Ekong, Watford also has in their ranks two other Super Eagles players; Emmanuel Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo while Isaac Success left the club at the start of the current season to sign for Serie A side, Udinese.
