IGR war: CSOs clash over Abuja Council’s probe

arely few days after a group protested on the streets of the Federal Capital Territory,  demanding that the Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr.    Abdullahi Adamu ( Candido) should account for the funds accruing from the Council’s Internally Generated Revenue( IGR), another group has quickly risen, saying the protest was needless and unpatriotic.

 

The protesting groups had alleged that there was massive misappropriation of public funds in the Council,  and that there was urgent need to rescue the Council from band of looters.

 

The pro-group, Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) just arising from its Press Conference, said that the protesting groups were misguided and mischievous youths blinded by personal interest and greed, with insatiable desire to disturb public peace and tranquillity.

 

 

One of the leaders of CSGGG, Mr. Edwin Olorunfemi, noted that no case of public fund embezzlement can be established against the council’s leadership.

 

According to him,  except those laden with incurable greed and penchant for mischief,  the present leadership of AMAC had appropriately deployed all public funds in delivering people oriented projects within the Council.

 

 

He said: “We condemn in all entirety,  the plot by these miscreants and henceforth advise them to desist from further actions as we the fifth realm of the estate will ensure that we bridge the existing Lacuna between AMAC and the media for efficient dissemination of information.

 

 

“We have kept watch and have also carried out an independent assessment on the activities of Hon. Abdullahi Candido in his four years of leadership; he  has fought tooth and nail to ensure he executes effectively the core mandate and trust reposed on him by the people “.
