Nobel laurate, Prof Wole Soyinka Thursday asked the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the country because of the increase in violent crimes especially killings, kidnapping and armed robbery. Soyinka, who was in Akure, the Ondo State capital for the Fagunwa Study Group second International Conference with the theme: “Wole Soyinka, DO Fagunwa and the Yoruba Artistic heritage” expressed concern about the security challenges facing the country.
Pointedly, he described the security situation in the country as worrisome and calamitous saying the government must do everything to check insecurity in the land.
