Babatope Okeowo, Akure
Former President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday asked the Federal Government to set up a special task force to handle the issue of terrorism and kidnapping ravaging different parts of the country.
Jonathan, who was in Akure, the Ondo State capital to commiserate with Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti on the gruesome killing of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunri by suspected Fulani herdsmen, also said the Federal Government should implement the 2014 National Conference report especially the areas that deal with the issue of security in the country.
This development came as the Akure community said it would no longer tolerate a situation where prominent indigenes of the town are being killed or maimed by bandits, kidnappers and Fulani herdsmen.
The Akure community, comprising of traditional chiefs, senior citizens, youth groups and women groups, said the community may result to self-help if the security agencies are unable to protect them from Fulani herdsmen and marauders terrorizing the town and adjoining communities.
At a press conference addressed by former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and former Nigeria Ambassador to Uganda, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, they stated that the killing of the Afenifere leader’s daughter made it the second time a prominent indigene of the town would suffer in the hands of Fulani kidnappers.
