Three students have been killed and six people injured in a high school shooting in the US, according to officials.
Staff and students rushed from the building in terror after gunshots began to ring out at about 12.55pm local time, while others cowered in their lockers in terror until police arrived.
A 15-year-old was arrested after being confronted by police and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan said the attack happened on Tuesday afternoon at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a community of about 22,000 people 30 miles north of Detroit.
Students were evacuated to a nearby shop to be reunited with their parents.
A lockdown remains in place while a search of the building is carried out, Click on Detroit reported.
Oakland County Undersheriff Michael G. McCabe said that the suspect was apprehended within five minutes of police arriving.
One of the injured people was a teacher, authorities said.
“We received over 100 911 calls to our dispatch center,” McCabe said, CNN reported.
“At this point in time, we believe he acted alone.”
“He fired multiple shots, I can tell you that,” McCabe said.
Aerial photos show at least six ambulances, multiple police cars and a fire engine at the school.
