JUST IN: Houses burnt as petrol tanker explodes in Benue

Many houses were on Tuesday burnt down when a petrol tanker carrying large quantity of petroleum products exploded in Agudo village in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occured at a sharp bend along the  ever-busy Makurdi-Gboko Expressway.

 

Tarka is the home of Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Senator George Akume.

A witness from the local government, Sunday Kaase, told New Telegraph that the tanker, which was heading towards Gboko from Makurdi, attempted to pass by a burning bush causing it to explode.

The incident, which residents said, took them unawares, also destroyed many houseshold items and property worth millions of naira.

New Telegraph has observed that bush burning, which is a way of life of the people, usually affords the people the opportunity to hunt for rats and other wild animals for consumption and sale.
