JUST IN: Wizkid gets 2 nominations for 2022 Grammy Awards 

 

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as ‘Wizkid’, has received two nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards, which will hold in January next year.

It was announced on Tuesday that Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made in Lagos’ has been nominated in the Best Global Music Award category, while ‘Essence’ makes the list of nominees for the Best Global Music Performance category. The latest nominations for the 2022 edition of the Grammy Awards makes it a total of four Grammy nominations for Wizkid since the start of his music career.

Wizkid would be hoping to clinch the award and follow the footstep of popular Nigerian singer, Burna Boy who won the award for Best Global Music Album Award this year.

Significantly, Wizkid, won an award for his part in the video for Beyonce’s Brown-Skinned girl at the 2021 ceremony.

‘Made in Lagos’ was released in 2020 and has continued to dominate music charts in Nigeria and abroad. ‘Essence’ has been regarded as the song of the summer and made its way into the playlist of former US President Barack Obama.
Nate Bargatze, Jon Batiste, BTS, H.E.R., Gayle King, Måneskin, Tayla Parx and Carly Pearce all had the honour of helping to announce the star-studded list of nominees during a live stream on Tuesday, November 23.
