he Lagos State Government has commenced the E-Registration (Data Capturing) for 2020 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for no fewer than 47,804 Senior Secondary School (SS III) students in all public secondary schools in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, disclosed that the e-registration had been scheduled to take-off from January 9 to January 31, and will cover the 322 senior secondary schools in the state with a total of 47,804 candidates who are beneficiaries of the free WASSC registration by the State government.
She noted that the e-registration would require the presence of the students and cooperation of all principals to ensure a hitch-free exercise, adding that candidates must be regular and punctual in school so as to be captured in the exercise.
Ahead of the commencement of the e-registration exercise, the ministry had also commenced the training of E-Registration (Data Capturing) Officers selected from the ministry and the six Education Districts in the state.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, implored the participants at the training to embrace the technicalities, stressing that the ministry had purchased webcam cameras and other devices to be used for the capturing of the students.
She, however, affirmed that the training was necessary to enable the officers to know the applications and website to log on to while capturing candidate’s data and steps for an error-free registration process.
In her remarks, the Head, WAEC Zonal Office, Mrs. Ademola Osoba, expressed readiness of the facilitating team to impact on the participants to enable them to keep abreast of the innovative trends by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and expressed optimism of a hitch-free exercise.
A total of 44,645 candidates were registered by the Lagos State Government free for the WASSCE during the 2019 E-Registration exercise.
