Determined to propagate Islam through teachings on contemporary issues and developments, the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa has appointed seven new imams. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Imams, the Mosque Chairman, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi said that the expansion of the secretariat’s mission board becomes necessary because some of the present Mission Board members are getting older, while some had died in the recent past.
The newly appointed Imams of the Mosque include: Dr. Isa Abdul-Majeed of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Imaam Al-Imam Raji from the Ministry of Science and Technology; Imam Saheed Aro from the Ministry of Agriculture; Imaam Mutahir Adams of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Imaam Basit Baruwa from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget. Others were Dr. Ahmad Saheed from LASUTH, Imaam Alugo Abdul-Hakeem Oluwole from Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority and Dr. Saheed Ashafa from LASU foundation According to Afolabi, there was need for the Friday sermon to reflect the reality of the Muslim society, saying that the new Imams are well versed in Islam and would be able to give sermon that touches on contemporary issues.
“As promised during the inauguration of the new executive of the mosque last year, our target is to widen the Mosque mission Board by injecting new bloods that would make succession within the mission board easy from within the State Public Service.” While charging the new Imams to cooperate with the existing mosques leaders, Justice Ishola Olohunnibe who led the Board of Trustees of the Mosque, also urged the new imams to preaching heart touching sermons devoid sentiments.
Justice Olohunimbe tasked the clerics to keep the country united through their teachings, adding that the mosque is the rallying point for all Muslims irrespective of their religious view. While welcoming the new Imaams into the mission board, Imaam Kosoko Abdul-Hakeem said he could vouch for the selected that they are among the best within the community for the job. He promised that the older Imaams are ready to cooperate with them by integrating them into the routine of their duties adding that they are all ones having known one another for a longer period through different channels including the religion.
