Man, 27, defiles girl, 10, in Benue

A 27-year-old man identified as Inalegwu Ochekwu of Otukpo town in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State is cooling his heels behind bars for raping a 10-year-old girl known as Franca.
The incidence happened last Saturday in the local government.
Narrating her ordeal to journalists, the girl said it happened when she was sent to look for her sister which she said took her to the suspect’s shop who is an apprentice dry cleaner.
“When I went to their shop, to find out whether he saw my sister, the man said no, but as I was going back, the man grabbed me.

 

“As I was shouting asking of what was happening, he carried a cloth to cover my mouth and I struggled with him, he pressed me down, tore my cloth and forced himself on me and my body was stained with blood.”

A social activist, Mrs. Julie Okoh, who reported the case at Otukpo Divisional Police, commended the Divisional Police Officer, Supol Bawa who she said exhibited zero tolerance for rape cases.

She commended the DPO for facilitating movement of victim and culprit to the l command headquarters in Makurdi for interrogation.
When contacted, the State Command spokesperson, DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene said she was yet to be briefed on the matter.

“I have not been briefed, because I have been busy with the police recruitment exercise,” Anene said.
