NAFEST: State commissioners, stakeholders seek shift in date

State commissioners and stakeholders in the cultural sector have appealed to the Plateau State Governor, Mr. Simon Lalong, to consider hosting the forthcoming National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST), in November rather than the December date earlier fixed for the festival. This appeal was made during the virtual meeting of the National Council for Arts and Culture hosted by the Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Segun Runsewe, to discuss matters related to the festival and review the syllabus and programme of events.

In attendance at the meeting were commissioners of culture from the 36 states, including the Federal Capital territory (FCT, Abuja, permanent secretaries, special advisers and directors of culture and tourism as other as well stakeholders. According to the stakeholders, December is a very busy month of the year, with numerous activities, therefore, they appealed to Lalong to consider hosting the festival in November so as to allow for full participation by all the states and also allow them time to prepare for their end of year activities in their different states.

While speaking during the technical stakeholders’ visual meeting, Runsewe charged the culture managers to be proactive and creative in their management of cultural activities, advising that it is time to think outside the box so as to remain relevant and active in this era of COVID-19.
