Ndigbo celebrates Chief Amaobi’s coronation as Ezeudo of Ifekowajo

It was fanfare, dancing and merriment as the Igbo community in Ifekowajo Local Development Council of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State celebrated the coronation of their first Eze Ndigbo. His Royal Highest, Dr Cliffor Chinedu Amaobi was inaugurated as the Ezeudo Ndigbo of Ifekowajo on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Chief Amaobi was elected the Ezeudo following his good deeds and generosity to Igbo communities within the LDC. Speaking at his coronation, which was attended by many Ohanaeze Ndigbo leaders in Ogun State, Chief Amaobi expressed happiness that his people found him worthy to lead them. He said: “Today being my coronation day, I’m highly elated.

I’m completely happy. In fact, my happiness has no bound. The message I have for my people is that we should be peaceful, we should understand ourselves, and we should work for the progress of Igbo people, Igbo land and Nigeria in general. “I would advise my contender to take it easy because it is God that gives power. It is God that gives life. It is God that says you will be this or you will be that.

Everything you want to be, allow God to be the one that will decide it,not you or any other person. “I expect progress, development and at most human sacrifice because we need to sacrifice seriously for this country to move forward. We should do everything possible to sacrifice to make sure that this country is moved forward.” The President- General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo South-West, Chief Matthew Nwankwo, said: “Today is a great day in our lives in Ogun State Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ifekowajo. Today is a great day because we have installed a demo-cratically elected Ezeudo of Ifekowajo LDC.

“We have followed our system properly and we have selected him, presented him to the state and also presented him to the state traditional rulers’ council as our leader in this LDC. And today we are confirming him as the Ezeudo Ndigbo of Ifekowajo. We don’t have two Ezeudo only one because in our tradition we cannot have two Eze in a community or in a town.

“Ohanaeze is a peaceful organisation. First and foremost, we don’t go to the police and I know that there is no way two brothers would not have a dispute and misunderstanding but when you have a dispute we have a peace committee that goes round to select the dispute. And we have been living in harmony with our brothers and sisters and even our host communities.”

On his part, the Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Yewa Awori/Ifekowajo LDC, Nicolas Ezeh, said the Ndigbo community in Ifekowajo is celebrating victory. “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ifekowajo conducted an election in which Chief Clifford Amaobi won the election against Ignatius Uzoigwe. “After all says and done, there was a petition that the election was fraudulent and Ignatius Uzoigwe started taking us around but Ohanaeze Worldwide arrived with evidence at hand and declare Sir Clifford Amaobi as the winner of the election. So, what we are celebrating today is our new yam festival, end of the party and original coronation of Chief Clifford Amaobi as the Ezeudo of Ifekowajo land as well as his high chiefs.”
